The study of Physics at this level is aimed at providing a worthwhile educational experience through well designed studies of experimental and practical science.
The course of study will enable students to:
Become confident in a technological word and develop an informed interest in scientific matters
Recognise the usefulness and limitations of scientific method
Be suitably prepared for further studies leading to an A level Physics qualification.
Students at SCIE are expected to follow the Extended curriculum which includes both the Core and the Supplement.
Both theory and practical work are seen as integral parts of the course, and students will be tested on both in the final examination as outlined in the ‘Scheme of Assessment’.
The syllabus content consists of the following main sections, the specific details of which will be found in the syllabus document issued by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE)
General Physics, comprising kinematics, forces, mechanics and energy
Thermal Physics, comprising matter, heat transfer, thermal expansion, and temperature measurement
Properties of Waves, including light and sound
Electricity and Magnetism, including circuit analysis, practical applications and safety, digital electronics and electromagnetic effects
Atomic Physics, including radioactivity and nuclear structure
