SCIE Flag-Raising Ceremony in October
2017-10-09

 [SCIE web news, Oct 9th, 2017] Refreshed from a nine-day holiday (celebrating Chinese National Day and Mid-Autumn Day together), all teachers and students in SCIE welcomed the Flag Raising Ceremony of October, enjoying the Autumn breeze.

During the ceremony, Mr. Greenwood welcomed everyone back, and shared a very famous poem about Autumn, hoping everyone can feel and enjoy the savour of Autumn sweetness.

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,

Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;

Conspiring with him how to load and bless

With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eaves run;

To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,

And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;

To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells

With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,

And still more, later flowers for the bees,

Until they think warm days will never cease;

For Summer has o'erbrimm'd their clammy cells

Then, Mr. Greenwood introduced a new Chinese teacher, Susie Lin, and everyone clapped their hands to welcome her.

After a brief introduction of LAMDA, the HoD of English Department, Luke also asked the students who performed well in the LAMDA exams to come to the stage, and as a award, they received medals from Mr. Greenwood.

 Our Academic Principal, Martin Cole invited Tomato to the stage and congratulated him for winning the prestigious Red Dot “Best of the Best” prize with his unique product “Smart Helix”, hoping he can share his great idea and product in the coming flag raising ceremony.

After announcing the top award winners in CIE at the last flag rising, our Academic Principal, Neil Mobsby also invited Melody, who gained "Top in World" in Edexcel Japanese exam, to come to the stage and received applause from teachers and students.

The head of ECA, Gary Ellis encouraged everyone to watch and support the basketball game between teachers and students tomorrow afternoon, then he announced the winners of Badminton House Game:  The fourth place was Water House; The third place was Fire House; The joint first place is Metal and Wood House. Mr. Greenwood presented the certificates and the trophy of 1st place to the captains of the house accordingly. “It’s pity that the Seng Girls can’t come to performance this year due to the schedule clash, and I wish we can make it for next year, but I will keep sending information about the Seng girls to let everyone knows their situations.” Gary said.

The Head of Prefect Communication Portfolio, Renee also came to the stage and encouraged student representatives to participate the regular meetings on time and actively express their friends’ and classmates’ opinions. She also hoped that all students can take an active part in making the school a better place by sharing their questions, ideas or even solutions to Prefect at any time, as she believed “Together we can make a change.”
