2017 SCIE MUSIC CONCERT
2017-10-25

[SCIE web news, Oct 25th, 2017] The autumn wind brought us the annual music concert in SCIE. As usual, this concert was organized by Music department and all the music students from G1 to A2 were involved. This concert lasted about one hour in auditorium.

SCIE Orchestra played us the music by George Gershwin, including our school bell Rhapsody in Blue . Orchestral version of Rhapsody in Blue made a brand new impression on the audience.

A2 student Kelly played Ballade no. 2 in F major op. 38 by Chopin. Ballade was a musical composition telling a long story about brave action or exciting event. The whole auditorium listened to the language of piano quietly and felt the excitement in their heart.

I (Alice G2) played a flute solo with piano accompaniment by our music teacher Mr. Blake. I chose Schwanengesang, D. 957: No. 4. Standchen by Schubert. Flute and piano created a silent and profound environment. The music slowly flowed to the audience like a stream in the valley.

G1 student Jacky played English Suite No.2 In A Minor, BWV 807 Prelude by J.S. Bach. Jacky knew perfectly the playing technique of Baroque music, what’s more, he was also the trumpeter in SCIE Orchestra. How talented he was!

After Jacky, all the music student brought us a choir. They sang Swinging The Night Away , Sway and the theme of Game of Thrones. The audience was moved by the swing beats and the lively melody.

G2 Keludy performed a piano solo. Surprisingly, she played her classmate Simon’s composition A Lemon Chocolate Coffee Cupcake . I feel so proud of them !

G2 Walton performed  Sonata No. 1 in G Minor, BWV 1001, I Adagio by J.S. Bach. This piece was originally written for violin, but Walton played it on his viola. Baroque tuning was 415Hz, in order to present this music with more Baroque impression, Walton carefully tuned his viola to 415Hz. His performance was excellent because of his deliberate preparation.

Back to Black
By A1 Esme and Jasmine warmly embraced the audience. Everyone lost in the smooth melody.

A2 Lemona was the cellist in SCIE Orchestra. Though she was not the music student, she was invited to played in the concert. She played swan by Saint-Saëns. Thanks to Lemona, we could witness the beautiful power of cello.

Christopher from A2 played Vision Fugitive No.14, 19 and 20 by Prokofiev. Christopher scored ‘ top in China’ in AS Music this year, his knowledge and skill about piano performance was unquestionable. Vision Fugitive had many dissonant notes, by Christopher’s performance, we felt the beauty of disharmony.

A2 Irena and Nancy confidently performed Acoustic mushup for Shape of You / the Greatest / Closer. The auditorium was cheered up instantaneously as the familiar melody was heard.

Last but not the least, G2 Tomato, Author and Rolice played Manhattan by Eric Johnson. The band pushed the concert to the highlight.

With the last note fallen, the concert finally stepped to finish. Thank you for Music department and all music students.

See you next year !
