G1 Parents Meeting
2018-01-12

[SCIE web news, Jan 12th, 2018] The sun was shining brightly, adding some warmth to the cold weather, as if it was shining for our G1 parent meeting. For the parents, the memory of their children’s first-day to school was still vivid, but in the twinkling of an eye, a semester passed, and they were very eager to know more about their children’s performance in school.

As usual, there were two sections of this G1 parent meeting: the first section was a brief meeting in Audi, which conducted by Academic principal, Mr. Neil Mobsby, who would talk about some related school policies and other notices. And in the last section, parents could have a chance to communicate with the subject teachers face to face, to know more about their children’s studying.

The content of Mr.Mobsby’s briefing was divided into 4 parts: 1- how to check academic results and other functions on CMS; 2- the constitution of G1 GPA; 3- university application schedule; 4- how to check students’ attendance and ask for leave.

Mr. Mobsby explained very patiently on how the parents could check their children’s academic reports on CMS, and how the school generated all the grades, scores and GPA in students’ reports. What’s more, in order to alleviate parents’ anxiety, he also mentioned that, if a G1 student got a bad score in one semester, it would not seriously affect his overall GPA.

For better understanding of students’ studying, Mr. Mobsby also advised the parents to log in CMS regularly to check their children’s homework, teachers’ comments, and the attendance records, etc., to encourage and motivate their children timely.

In order to give a basic knowledge to the parents on how and when the students could apply universities, Mr. Mobsby made a timetable of university application process and explained what need to be done at the particular time. And he also shared good news with the G1 parents: we got 27 offers from Oxbridge!! and I hope G1 students could be more successful than what we achieved today. The parents also shared the same wish and responded with warm applause.

The last section of G1 parent meeting: a face-to-face conversation with subject teachers about students’ learning. Looking at the long queues, the worried faces from the parents, we could see how they were so concerned about their children. And the teachers seemed to feel ‘the heart of parenting’, and explained patiently on how their children’s performance in school and provided some useful suggestions for them.

It’s believed that, after this G1 parent meeting, the parents could have a better understanding of how their children perform in school, and students would continue to work hard and achieve better results.
