The First Flag Raising Ceremony of the New Semester
2018-02-05

[SCIE web news, Feb 5th, 2018] In the continuous cold, the teachers and students of SCIE still arrived very early to attend the first flag rising ceremony of the new semester. With the solemn National Anthem, the flag was slowly rising on the sky.

Our principal Mr. Joe Greenwood continued his tradition – using a poem as an opening speech, but for this time, it was presented by two Prefects, with a Chinese modern poem from a Chinese poet, Li Dan.

The results of University placement came out gradually, which increased to the highest number of graduating students this year. Mr. Greenwood invited all the students who got the Oxbridge offers this year to come to the stage and accept everyone’s congratulations, and he also congratulated other students’ successes in achieving their dream schools’ offers. “I hope A1 students could follow them as models, to create more brilliant results next year.”, he said.

Before the Christmas holiday, some students have participated the FOBISIA Social Sciences Essay Competition, which was organized by SCIE for the first time, appealing students from more than 50 different countries to join. And it was happy to see that our students had a good performance: Nikita, George and Peter won the prize of Highly Commended, and Candy got the forth place, Walter and Daniel was awarded by the third place and the Second place respectively.

Then, our incoming principal Mr. Neil Mobsby made an announcement: After several years’ hard work, the construction of the new campus finally begun, and the groundbreaking ceremony was held last Tuesday. We will have a better facilities and environment for the teachers and students, and let's look forward to our beautiful new campus!

The head of ECA, Mr Gary Ellis emphasized the importance of students’ participation in community service, which has some basic requirements for each student, and school have already provided many opportunities for them to participate, for example, the coming Mini-Olympic games, will need a lot of volunteers. And he also hoped that everyone would continue to support the ‘Seng Girls’ charity project. And what’s more, as a traditional event, the “Raise and Give Day” is coming which is organized by A2 students, with their efforts and creative ideas, to raise money for the children in the Promise Land. ‘I hope we could really help the children in need with our love and care through these activities.’ Gary said.

Recently, school held a series of House competitions, including sport competitions, knowledge tests and educational puzzle games, and so on.  Gary announced the results and gave awards to the outstanding Houses.
