Metal 5 field trip to an archery club
2018-01-30

[SCIE web news, Jan 30th, 2018] Blue — the sky stretching before our eyes; warmth — the trail of sunlight creeping on our faces; yellow — our close-knit community of Metal 5 in the mild winter breeze.

Our form trip had finally taken place after a protracted period of expectancy. 9 AM on Jan. 20th, 18 students from Metal 5 departed from SCIE to an archery club in Bagualing. Our previous plan of going to Gulangyu, Xiamen was abandoned because of the cold weather— which caused the closure of the beaches. Later, our form tutor Jenny suggested that we should try something new. So, yay, we ended up in the archery club for our trip!

After we arrived, everyone was shocked by the professional and delicately-designed archery equipment hanging on the walls. Like everyone else, my heart rippled when I envisioned the bow and arrow lying in my hands. This brand-new experience thrilled us to the bone.

Our coach was a professional archery player. His every move, from pulling the bow string to releasing the arrow, revealed the years of experience and hard work paid.  Our classmates paid close attention to his demonstrations, and had soon grasped the key to archery:

Bow in your left hand, arrow in your right. Place the bottom of the arrow into a buckle on the bow string. Then, lift and pull the string. Remember to place your right hand next to your face, and your left arm aiming straight towards the target. Now, gaze into the goal as if your entire soul is there.  Relax your fingers, then, shoot!

WOOSH WOOSH!

Those who had comprehended the method started to get really skillful at it. One arrow after another, the target got clearer and clearer in our eyes.

Patrick, one of our classmates, became our archery master. Every arrow he shot hit right in the heart of the target.

“Seems like I know nothing of power!” Carmen marveled at Patrick’s performance.

Of course, many other students performed perfectly, too.

At noon, we left the archery club for a hotpot restaurant nearby. Hotpot is a MUST in a form trip! It seemed that everyone was starving. Our “yellow” group swiftly bustled through the busy streets of Bagualing, searching for our destination.

Finally, we arrived at the Hotpot restaurant. The mouth-watering smell of hotpot, mixed with blazing heat, infused our noses. Two whole fridges of fresh food laid in front of us. Everyone picked the food they liked and dashed towards the hotpot, with our eyes blinking with expectancy.

Jenny ordered a hotpot with plain stock for those who can’t stand the spiciness. But of course, we also ordered the Chongqing style spicy hotpot! Staring at the delicious stock, we waited in scorching pain for the water to boil and the feast to start.

Look at what we have got! The tender, succulent beef and mutton; the fresh, green vegetables; and the various kinds of sauces. Now roll up your sleeves and commence the feast!

In a short while, the fully-packed table turned empty. After several rounds of food-fetching, our stomachs were replenished. That is what you call happiness!

“Gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrt…(burping)”

The day was full of new experience and joy. When the class was dismissed, everyone’s face was kindled with smiles.

So, Jenny, when is our next form trip?
