G1 Business Tencent Trip
2018-04-16
[SCIE web news, April 16th, 2018] On 12th April, 37 G1 business students who were guided by three teachers (Chet Khatu, Allen Liu  and Isaac Fu) visited the Tencent business in Shenzhen.

The Tencent Building was our first destination. On the second floor, there was an exhibition hall for visitors. A large screen on the wall presented the current online users of QQ. There was also a map of China featuring countless sparkling green dots. Each dot represented one QQ or Wechat user. It was a magical feeling to realize that I was also a small green dot on the map.

Then, the Tencent tour guide introduced us some other Tencent products like Tencent Mobile App Store, Tencent Map and Tencent Games. The most incredible thing that we saw was probably the road traffic analysis system of Shenzhen, and the data was mainly collected from Mobike and Didi. It was designed to help citizens to avoid the traffic jam and chase down criminals.

At the corner of the exhibition hall, there was an enormous doll which caught everyone’s attention. The doll had a penguin figure and we all recognized that was the symbol of QQ. At last, the guide showed us the charity works Tencent was doing, which was using the Tencent social network to find lost children, “Come home, baby”.

Then, the students left the Tencent Building and went to the new coastal building for Tencent workers. The new building was neat and well-designed. No matter what you wanted to sit or stand, the customized desks and the ergonomically chairs were always suitable for work. The window of the building was tipsily designed to avoid excess sunlight raying. Grabbing a refreshing drink, the spacious and comfortable resting area was the place where staff could discuss their projects or just have a short break.

In the sports area, you could play the most popular sports. There were treadmills for people who wanted to keep fit. If you were an extreme sports lover, Indoor climbing wall was the place to go. There was even a full-sized basketball court with a TV screen and score indicator.

There were so many things we could learn from Tencent business. As a student, I admired the spirit of innovation and exploration of the business. They did not stand still by the success of QQ. Instead, Tencent business continued to develop new products like Wechat and step into the other fields like VR and Big Data. This was also useful for us, we should also be humble and pursue for learning all the time. Some of my classmates gave high comments about Tencent business’s innovation and advanced technology, maybe the humanized working place was the ideal place for them in the future.
