Each student is allocated a UCAS tutor when they enter A1. It is important that the student and the tutor form a good working relationship in order to make the application process as efficient as possible. Once the UCAS cycle starts, the student and tutor will likely meet at least once a week, perhaps more often as the process draws to a conclusion. There will be times when the student needs to be part of a group meeting, while at other times individual interviews are required. The tutor will follow a program which will enable the application to proceed smoothly, and to enable students to make the best choices.
The tutor is there to help the student with their application, but ultimately it is the student who does the bulk of the work. Therefore, self-motivation and frequent communication are very important. The most successful students are those who are organized, motivated, can meet deadlines, and do not need ‘chasing up’ when tasks need to be done. The student needs to be aware of approaching deadlines, and make sure he/she knows what is required.
