SCIE CS Field Trip

October 25th, under the organization of Mr. Shawn Wu and with assistance from Ms. Hannah and Ms. Shevani, 32 students from our school visited the headquarters of UBTECH Robotics Corp., located in Nanshan. UBTECH, a rising star in the Shenzhen tech industry and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, is a leader in the field of humanoid robotics. During this visit, students witnessed firsthand how the computer and AI knowledge they study is realized and applied, gaining insight into cutting-edge industry developments, broadening their horizons, and benefiting greatly from the experience. Below are contributions from some of the students who participated in this activity.

Last Friday after school, we visited UB Tech under the guidance of our Computer Science teachers. The experience was very inspiring and memorable.

After seeing all these remarkable robots, we gathered in the meeting room to listen to UB Tech engineers.

They shared with us the history of the company, and how they worked its way to becoming a leading force in China’s robotics industry. One of the topics that stood out to me was their innovation of using human shaped robots in car factories for weight lifting and product conveying. These roles are repetitive, physically demanding and energy consuming for humans.

By automating these tasks, the robots designed by UB Tech not only cut down costs for companies but also free up humans for more intellectually demanding and less repetitive work. This conversation connected directly to what I learned in my Computer Science lessons back in G2, on robotics. I remember reading about the benefits of robotics in industry.

Looking at the robots designed by UB Tech for sweeping floors, automatically cleaning cat litter, delivering food and products, and even patrol public areas, I finally truly realized how robots can make human life much more convenient, the knowledge I acquired at school was put into context. Witnessing the concepts I learnt in class in action was a truly rewarding experience for me.

Journey to the Future

On Oct. 25th, I felt lucky to participate in our unique field trip provided by SCIE to UB Tech in order to reveal the mystery of androids. The staff at UB Tech gave us an in-depth introduction to their products, mission, and direction, demonstrating the qualities of a leading company in the global bionic robot industry. The great and impressive innovation in their series of products—No matter for commercial use, for family use or just for showcase—rushed into our brain, leaving a persistent image in our brain. Androids and attached biological technologies have already entered classrooms and crossed borders, and it is set to become a part of our everyday lives soon.

After the introduction, we had the privilege of sitting down with Mr. Chen, a UB Tech board member, and the company’s engineer, engaging in a meaningful conversation. Our group expressed boundless curiosity and a thirst for knowledge, asking insightful questions about AI products, androids, and their applications in various industries. Topics ranged from the history of robotics to its future vision, technical details, and even ethical considerations, all areas that sparked our keen interest. The engineers at UB Tech answered patiently, feeding our curiosity and expanding our understanding.

This journey opened my eyes to UB Tech’s impressive innovations in the field of androids and provided a deeper appreciation for the power of technological advancement. It reminded me that success in technology doesn’t come from simply following the usual path; like UB Tech, we must seize opportunities, stay ahead of trends in the tech industry, and strive to be pioneers of our time.
