General Information:

The regular working week is Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:30 (early finish at 15:00 on Fridays).  Of the 48 x 40 minute periods in the week, normal contact time for a teacher is 24. Teachers also have 6 periods of personal time fixed into their timetables when they do not need to be at work. Teaching staff at SCIE are also expected to offer one hour after school of extra-curricular activity each week. Our school year is August to mid-June with all Chinese holidays (including 1 week for October National Day and 3 weeks for Chinese New Year) plus 2 weeks Christmas holiday.

Salary:
This is according to our published salary scale, plus apartment provided, full international medical cover (self + dependent) and annual flight allowance (self + spouse).

Campus:

It is an exciting time for the school as we move to a new campus for 2020-21 to facilitate an expansion from 900 students to 2000 within 3 years; next year we expect that the number will increase to approximately 1350.

The new campus, like the current one, is located downtown in Futian district and next to Antuo Shan Metro Station.  There will be purpose-built staff accomodations at the site with easy transit directly outside.

Specific Responsibilities:

At our new campus, Music expands from its popular beginning into our new facilities with dedicated practice rooms, recording studios and a theatre. Teachers will have a variety of classes from IGCSE Music in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL Music in UK Years 12 and 13, depending on skills and experience. The subject is highly successful with two thirds of students achieving A/A* at IGCSE and A Level with the top students regularly achieving the Top of China or Top of Asia. We are looking for a strong music composing teacher with experience of IGCSE and A Level to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion.

At our new campus, Biology now has 6 full time teachers and 2 technicians, and we will further expand to about 10 teachers and a dedicated technician team by 2023, working in our 9 purpose-built biology labs. Teachers will have a variety of classes from IGCSE Biology in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL Biology in UK Years 12 and 13. The subject is popular throughout the school with about a quarter of the cohort choosing it at AS level. Results are high, with over 85% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and nearly 75% at A Level. Each year a number of students choose to apply to Biology courses in top universities in the UK and US, with a significant number taking up places in Biology, Biochemistry or Natural Sciences courses at Oxbridge.

We are looking for strong biology teachers with experience of A Level to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion. Experience of teaching biology at the highest levels, with particular focus on practical lab skills and the ability to facilitate extension classes in Biology or Biochemistry will be an advantage.

Antuoshan is in Futian, the CBD district of Shenzhen. The campus is within walking distance to international shops, supermarkets and restaurants. It is a stones thrown away from the Antuo Hill subway station, giving easy and convenient access to the city’s extensive metro network.

Specific Responsibilities:

At our new campus, Drama expands from its popular beginning into our new facilities with dedicated drama studios and a theatre. Teachers will have a variety of classes from GCSE Drama in UK Years 10 and 11 and AL Drama in UK Years 12 and 13, depending on skills and experience. We are seeing more students applying for a Performing Arts oriented course at university.

We are looking for a strong drama teacher with experience of A Level to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion. Experience of teaching drama at the highest levels, with particular focus on facilitating students to achieve their best will be an advantage. We will also consider combined Drama / English teachers.

The regular working week is Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:30 (early finish at 15:00 on Fridays) and the normal student contact time is 24 x 40-minute periods per week (55% contact time), in addition to class preparation. Teachers also have 6 periods of personal time fixed into their timetables when they do not need to be at work. Teaching staff at SCIE are also expected to offer one hour after school of extra-curricular activity each week. Our school year is August to mid-June with all Chinese holidays (including 1 wk for October National Day and 3 wks for Chinese New Year) plus 2 weeks Christmas holiday.

Geography is a popular IGCSE and A Level Humanities course at the school and achieves strong results. Recently the department has carried out fieldwork both locally and overseas in Bali and Borneo. Increasingly, students are selecting to continue their studies in Humanities at university. We are looking for a strong Geography teacher with the ability to teach at IGCSE, AS and A Level to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion. Experience of teaching Geography at the highest levels and the ability to facilitate extension classes in Geography will be an advantage.
