General Information:

The regular working week is Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:30 (early finish at 15:00 on Fridays).  Of the 48 x 40 minute periods in the week, normal contact time for a teacher is 24. Teachers also have 6 periods of personal time fixed into their timetables when they do not need to be at work. Teaching staff at SCIE are also expected to offer one hour after school of extra-curricular activity each week. Our school year is August to mid-June with all Chinese holidays (including 1 week for October National Day and 3 weeks for Chinese New Year) plus 2 weeks Christmas holiday.

Salary:
This is according to our published salary scale, plus apartment provided, full international medical cover (self + dependent) and annual flight allowance (self + spouse).

Campus:

It is an exciting time for the school as we move to a new campus for 2020-21 to facilitate an expansion from 900 students to 2000 within 3 years; next year we expect that the number will increase to approximately 1350.

The new campus, like the current one, is located downtown in Futian district and next to Antuo Shan Metro Station.  There will be purpose-built staff accomodations at the site with easy transit directly outside.

Specific Responsibilities:

At our new campus, Art now have 3 full time teacher and 1 technician and will slowly expand to 4 or 5 teachers by 2023. Teachers will have a variety of classes from IGCSE (Fine) Art in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL (Fine) Art in UK Years 12 and 13, depending on skills and experience. The subject is highly successful with two thirds of students achieving A/A* at IGCSE and typically around three quarters at A Level with the top students regularly achieving the highest marks in Country or in the World. Each year a number of students choose to apply to Art, Architecture and Design courses in top universities in the UK and US.

We are looking for a strong art teacher with experience of A Level to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion. Experience of teaching art at the highest levels, with particular focus on facilitating students to achieve their best will be an advantage. We will also consider applicants with skills in other areas of Art beyond Fine Art to enable us to further develop our Arts programme.

The subject is popular throughout the school with about a quarter of the cohort choosing it at AS level. Results are high, with over 85% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and nearly 75% at A Level. Each year a number of students choose to apply to Biology courses in top universities in the UK and US, with a significant number taking up places in Biology, Biochemistry or Natural Sciences courses at Oxbridge.

We are looking for strong biology teachers with experience of A Level to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion. Experience of teaching biology at the highest levels, with particular focus on practical lab skills and the ability to facilitate extension classes in Biology or Biochemistry will be an advantage.

Some classes in Business or Accounting may be possible depending on skills and experience. Economics is highly popular throughout the school with more than half of the cohort taking it at AS level and the majority of these continuing through to A Level. Computer Science is popular throughout the school and results are high, with about 70% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and nearly two thirds at A-Level. The students are enthusiastic about coding, and there are several extra-curricular groups with their own computing projects and interests. Each year several students choose to apply to Computer Science courses in top universities in the UK and US.

We are looking for strong computer science teachers with experience of A-Level and strong coding skills to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion. Experience of teaching computer science at the highest levels, with particular focus on the ability to facilitate extension classes in computer science will be an advantage.

We are looking for a strong drama teacher with experience of A Level to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion. Experience of teaching drama at the highest levels, with particular focus on facilitating students to achieve their best will be an advantage. We will also consider combined Drama / English teachers.

Specific Responsibilities:

At our new campus, the Faculty of Commerce will expand from its current 12 full time teachers to about 20 teachers by 2023, teaching mostly economics but also with some Business Studies and Accounting classes. Teachers will have a variety of classes from IGCSE Economics in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL Economics in UK Years 12 and 13. Some classes in Business or Accounting may be possible depending on skills and experience. Due to the expansion in our college, the Mathematics department will expand from its current 18 full-time teachers to about 25 teachers by 2023. Due to the calibre of our students, Mathematics is taught as standard a year in advance of normal cohorts with IGCSE Mathematics or Additional Mathematics in UK Year 10 and AS/AL Mathematics in UK Years 11 and 12. Students can then study AS/AL Further Mathematics in UK Years 12 and 13 as appropriate. The subject is highly popular throughout the school, with almost all students completing AS Mathematics and about 95% continuing to A-Level. Results are very high, with over 98% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and over 85% at A-Level. Typically, about half of the students will study Further Mathematics, with nearly two-thirds achieving A/A*. In August 2020, the College moved to its brand new purpose-built campus in Antuoshan, Shenzhen. The top floor, with a comfortable staff lounge, gym and designated areas for meetings and CPD, is accessible to staff only. Staff are housed in the separate adjacent staff block, which offers two and three-bedroom furnished apartments.

Antuoshan is in Futian, the CBD district of Shenzhen. The campus is within walking distance to international shops, supermarkets and restaurants. It is a stones thrown away from the Antuo Hill subway station, giving easy and convenient access to the city’s extensive metro network.

Specific Responsibilities:

At our new campus, physics now has 16 full time teachers and 3 technicians, and we will further expand to more than 20 teachers and a dedicated technician team by 2023, working in our 11 purpose-built physics labs. Teachers will have a variety of classes from IGCSE Physics in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL Physics in UK Years 12 and 13. The subject is highly popular throughout the school with about 80% of the cohort taking it at AS level and two thirds the cohort at A Level. Results are very high, with over 95% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and 75% at A Level. Each year a number of students choose to apply to Physics or Engineering courses in top universities in the UK and US, with a significant number taking up places in Physics, Engineering or Natural Sciences courses at Oxbridge.

We are looking for strong physics teachers with experience of A Level to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion. Experience of teaching physics at the highest levels, with particular focus on practical lab skills and the ability to facilitate extension classes in Physics will be an advantage.

The regular working week is Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:30 (early finish at 15:00 on Fridays) and the normal student contact time is 24 x 40 minute periods per week (55% contact time), in addition to class preparation. Teachers also have 6 periods of personal time fixed into their timetables when they do not need to be at work. Teaching staff at SCIE are also expected to offer one hour after school of extra-curricular activity each week. Our school year is August to mid-June with all Chinese holidays (including 1 wk for October National Day and 3 wks for Chinese New Year) plus 2 weeks Christmas holiday.

Sociology is a popular A Level within the Humanities department at the school and achieves excellent results. The University and Careers Office (UCO) is a friendly and professional team that is committed to preparing students for life beyond SCIE. In 2020-2021, we are team of nine: a designed UCO secretary and eight counsellors, including the Head of UCO, USA Universities Coordinator, UK universities Coordinator. As the College expands, the UCO will have two additional counsellors in the following academic year.

At SCIE, at least 80% of our students apply to the UK through UCAS, and about a third of them apply to the US. Most students apply to multiple destinations, including Canada, Hong Kong and Australia. SCIE students have very high university aspirations. They work zealously to achieve impressive and deserving admissions results, including G5s, Ivy League and other highly competitive US and overseas universities. With 30 Oxbridge offers in 2020 and 23 in 2019, SCIE has consistently ranked first in China in offers from the two universities. As a University Counsellor, you will be guiding and counselling a maximum caseload of 45 A2 (Y13) students through their applications, and get involved in all the other three year groups in their university exploration and planning. The majority of your work is 1:1 university counselling with A1s and A2s, but you will also be expected to teach the G-level enrichment classes and A1 university preparation lessons.

We are looking for candidates with experience supporting students who come from highly selective education background, follow the British curriculum and aspire to attend prestigious overseas universities. The ability to facilitate university preparation sessions and understanding of the Chinese context will be added advantages.

The regular working week is Monday – Friday, 0800 – 1630 (early finish at 1500 on Fridays). Counsellors also have six periods of timetabled personal time when presence on campus is not expected. Teaching staff, including counsellors, are also expected to offer one hour after school of extra-curricular activity each week. Our school year is from August to mid-June with all Chinese holidays (including one week of October National Day and three weeks for Chinese New Year), plus two weeks’ Christmas holiday.
