Connecting Cultures, Serving Communities — We as Global Citizens

Editor’s Note: At SCIE, we encourage students to actively engage in extracurricular activities through the Global Citizenship Award (GCA), a program designed to cultivate intercultural understanding, global awareness, and a spirit of service learning. It also serves to document and recognize students’ growth and contributions beyond academics.

The campus is filled with inspiring GCA moments—some that reach across borders through cultural exchange, and others that take root locally in acts of community service.

This past March, two events stood out as powerful examples of the GCA spirit: one was a “Twinning Session” with our sister school in South Africa, fostering cross-cultural connection; the other, a charity Mini Olympics, where our student volunteers supported underprivileged women and children in rural China.

These experiences not only take our students beyond the classroom and into the world, but also help them grow into globally minded, socially responsible young citizens.

SCIE & Makupula Celebrating International Happiness Day Together

On March 20th, SCIE hosted the second online Twinning Session with the Makupula School in South Africa as part of the SCIE-Makupula Twinning Program, coinciding with the International Day of Happiness.

On March 20th, SCIE hosted the second online Twinning Session with the Makupula School in South Africa as part of the SCIE-Makupula Twinning Program, coinciding with the International Day of Happiness.

The initiative promotes intercultural understanding, personal connections, and broader perspectives which link directly with the essence of our GCA programme.

After about 1 hour the session was cut short due to time constraints, but the enthusiasm was high. Many students from the first session returned, indicating growing interest and value in the program with plans for future sessions already underway.

SCIE Students Shine at the 12th Annual Kids with Heart Mini Olympics

On March 15, 2025, Captivating and GPA Global hosted the 12th Annual Kidz with Heart Mini Olympics at Shen Wai International School. The event saw the participation of 163 children, aged between 5 and 11, who enthusiastically took part in a variety of fun and engaging activities such as basketball shootouts, golf, and both short and long-distance running races etc.

The Mini Olympics serves a noble purpose, raising funds to support underprivileged women and their children in rural China. We are incredibly proud that SCIE was able to contribute to this meaningful initiative by sending 70 student volunteers and 7 teacher volunteers to assist with the event.

This experience provided our students with a valuable opportunity to connect with the local community, build relationships, and earn community service hours. A special mention goes to Hannah Xia and Michelle Wang, who offered essential translation support from Chinese to English throughout the day, ensuring effective communication and smooth coordination.

The event was once again a tremendous success, raising over 100,000 RMB to support this vital cause. We look forward to continuing our involvement in this impactful initiative that allow our students to contribute positively to society.
