Charitable Footprint: Infinite Love in Motion

Over the past year, our school’s Service-Learning Division has collaborated with various departments and ECA clubs to conduct a range of charitable activities, showcasing the unparalleled compassion and generosity of our students, parents, and teachers. These activities not only reflect our school’s core values and assist students in realizing their self-worth, but they have also helped many in need. Here are some highlights and details of our charitable efforts:

In October 2023, we held an anti-human trafficking charity walk. The aim was to raise awareness about human trafficking through a walk on a circular track. Participants donated to the Captivating charity, enhancing their unique walking experience. All funds raised were used to support the continued education of rescued trafficked children, helping them broaden their horizons and achieve their dreams.

In 2022, the funds raised assisted two sisters from Nepal, 13-year-old Prasna and 17-year-old Garima, who were moved to Captivating’s Women‘s Safe Haven in Kathmandu and are currently undergoing therapy to alleviate the trauma of sexual abuse and trafficking.

The “One More Year” charity walk project at SCIE in 2023 helped 66 economically disadvantaged but academically outstanding students. This biennial event has made a significant impact on charity.

This academic year, the Service Learning department organized the first Animal Protection Week, which included a fundraising sale featuring merchandise designed around our school cat “Sesame” by students Dora and Marning.

The sale, offering calendars, badges, and standees, emphasized that all profits would support future charitable efforts. The students’ affection for the school cat and their passion for charity greatly supported this sale, raising over 600 RMB in just a few days.

Additionally, at the beginning of this month, the Service-Learning Division launched the first “Zero Waste Week,” aimed at reducing the use of disposable plastics on campus and promoting a more sustainable lifestyle. Designer Isa He created unique eco-friendly straw cups sold at a non-profit price of 13 RMB, which were very popular among students and teachers.

The barter market held that week was especially popular, with teachers and students actively participating by exchanging clothes, books, toys, and accessories, promoting resource recycling and strengthening community ties. All items not exchanged were donated to a local recycling station.

Last March’s Charity Week was also highly successful, featuring several innovative fundraising activities, including a traditional hair removal fundraising ritual participated in by students and facilitated by laughter through WeChat payments.

The 24-hour basketball challenge, organized by the Sports Division, was a highlight, with student and teacher teams competing in the vibrant Sports Hall amid cheers and the sounds of basketballs. Vii Cafe set up a stall outside the gym, selling drinks and snacks, with all profits donated to the school’s charity account.

The Arts Department also made significant contributions during Charity Week by hosting a charity concert and “Arts Extravaganza,” showcasing students’ talents in music, dance, drama, and visual arts at the halo theatre.

The enthusiastic audience participation and ticket purchases by parents and teachers helped raise considerable funds for local and international charitable organizations supporting education and development projects in impoverished areas.

The 2023 Food Festival notably contributed to fundraising efforts, with parents and teachers generously showcasing their culinary skills with diverse dishes from various countries and regions, enhancing cultural understanding and appreciation among the participants. This event not only strengthened the community’s cohesion but also demonstrated our school’s commitment to global charitable efforts.

Through the generous contributions of teachers, students, and parents, our charity account collected 360,000 RMB. After careful research and selection of NGOs by students and the Service-Learning Division, these funds have been allocated to our charitable partners to support their daily operations and projects. Beneficiaries include local and international organizations focusing on animal welfare, marine protection, special needs education, life care services etc. as follows:

We are deeply grateful to every participant in our charitable activities. Your generosity and actions have enabled us to achieve these results. Looking forward, we hope to expand our charity projects and encourage more students to join the Service-Learning Division and GCA activities, making the world a better place through our collective efforts.
