∗ The data was last updated on May 4th

In 2023 universities application season, SCIE students have maintained their strong performance in global undergraduate admissions with outstanding academic achievements and comprehensive qualities. They have received offers from numerous top universities in the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, etc., achieving remarkable results.

SCIE’s 2023 graduates have received 295offers from the UK’s G5 elite universities. In addition to the 47 Oxbridge offers reported earlier, students have also received 73 offers from Imperial College London, 23 from London School of Economics and Political Science, and 152 from University College London. Imperial College London offered a diverse range of majors, including Mathematics, Computer Science, Biomedical Science, Aeronautical Engineering, Molecular Bioengineering, and Electronic Engineering. While the London School of Economics and Political Science has yet to release many offers, students from SCIE have already achieved excellent results in popular majors such as Economics, Social Anthropology, Accounting and Finance, Politics, and Philosophy. University College London has provided a wide range of options for students, spanning Biology, Chemistry, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Psychology, and Sociology.

Based on data from the past three years, approximately 30% of students in each cohort are US applicants.  Despite having fewer applicants compared to the UK, SCIE students have still achieved excellent results. Every year, a number of our students are admitted to the top 10 comprehensive universities, Ivy League schools, and prestigious liberal arts colleges in the US, such as Stanford University, University of Chicago, Columbia University, Johns Hopkins University, Cornell University, and Wellesley College.

Due to the intensifying competition for undergraduate applications abroad, “dual applications to the UK and the US” have become a popular choice among some students. For example, Jiahua Zhuang was offered admission to the Mathematics program at Cornell University and the Engineering program at the University of Cambridge, Hongyi Xiong was offered admission to the Physics program at the University of Oxford and Rice University, Yahan Sun was offered admission to both Columbia University and London School of Economics and Political Science, Xixuan Li was offered admission to both University of Cambridge and Carnegie Mellon University, Xinzhi Li was offered admission to both University of Oxford and UCLA, Shuoheng Huang was offered admission to the History program at Vanderbilt University and London School of Economics and Political Science, while Wanmi Sui and Shiyun Tang both received offers from both the University of Cambridge and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

In addition to the UK and the US, SCIE’s class of 2023 has excelled in their applications in applications to universities in Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, and the Netherlands. They have received 98 offers from the University of Hong Kong and 23 offers from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, including impressive programs such as Economics, Law, Business Administration, and the Dual Degree Program in Technology and Management at HKUST.

The application season is ongoing and we will continue to update this year’s admission results. Stay tuned for further updates.

I believe that for most students and parents, a successful application season means receiving an offer from their dream school, or achieving a 'UCAS grand slam,' and so on. However, as I stayed up late at night contemplating my personal statement, and as I received rejection letters from Oxford and Imperial, I gradually realized that a mere offer cannot determine your entire life. Although it may sound like a cliché, in my opinion, a person with aspirations should have a clear plan for their future, possess a lifelong passion for academia, and still believe in themselves even after receiving rejection letters.

Preparing for the Oxford application process was a process of constantly stepping out of my comfort zone. These few months of studying have helped me to understand my chosen field more deeply, and I have truly fallen in love with it. After I began to love this subject, I found myself not caring so much about the ranking and popularity of the school I will ultimately attend. This has made me focus more on the process rather than the results, and pay more attention to the growth of my personality and knowledge rather than the brilliance of my resume. The week before the release of admission results was also my birthday. I told my parents that my birthday wish was to read more books and bravely experience various things, and to enrich my life experiences. I did not ask for material things, but I desired courage and wisdom the most.

Looking back on my four years of high school, there were some regrets, but joy and enlightenment were the real themes. I gained a lot of knowledge, made many precious friends, and went on a field trip to Spain that I had always dreamed of. I gradually learned to slow down at the right time, live in the present, and realize that many things may not go as planned, but only through hard work and perseverance can we avoid regret. Perhaps most journeys have no end, and there is no such thing as failure. With a calm and optimistic attitude, everything will have a new starting point and endless possibilities, just as the saying goes: 'when the boat reaches the bridgehead, it will go straight with the current.' I hope that everyone can learn to love while also achieving admission to their desired schools.

For each graduate, the application season marks the end of their high school career and the beginning of their journey towards higher education. It is a challenge, but also an opportunity for self-reflection in all aspects.  While success is primarily determined by one’s abilities, luck can also play a supporting role. How to end this chapter successfully depends on each student.
