Position Profile:

• Direct UK teaching experience preferred
• Minimum 2 years AL/IGCSE/AP teaching experience in the relevant area
• Ability to teach high achieving students (highly selective intake)
• Degree in area of expertise for teaching
• Teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS or equivalent)

Specific Responsibilities of Teaching Position:

• To keep SCIE learners safe, cared for, inspired and challenged, in their Physical Education lessons
• To plan and teach well-structured lessons which stretch the most able SCIE learners
• To regularly check for understanding and adapt teaching in response to the strengths and needs of all SCIE learners
• To promote mastery of English to a first language level (with second language learners)
• To create, conduct and analyse assessments, with a data driven approach to learning
• To regularly assess student performance, provide constructive feedback
• To produce accurate reports and communicate effectively with learners and their parents
• To be accountable for the attainment, progress and outcomes of your SCIE learners
• To work collegially with teachers and form tutors by sharing data, ideas and resources
• To embrace opportunities for teaching RPQ (projects) & GNT (Gifted and Talented)
• To offer Oxford style tutorials / Cambridge style supervisions to small groups
• To conduct mock interviews for university applicants (including Oxbridge and Ivy League)
• To contribute meaningfully to the ECA programme
• To be willing to explore possibilities for teaching AP Physical Education as our AP program expands
• To engage fully with the pastoral development and wellbeing of our young people

Brief Description of SCIE:

A UK curriculum high school (Cambridge International A Level & IGCSE) teaching through the medium of English to mainly Chinese students preparing for prestigious overseas universities.

We are slowly expanding our provision with the introduction of an AP stream, hence there are opportunities for teachers interested in some AP teaching in various AP subjects.

• Highly selective – English and Mathematics admissions tests
• Medium of instruction & communication – AS/AL English, with students functioning at first language level, mostly studying AS/AL English language or literature in A1/A2
• 1800+ students, High school only – UK Key Stages 4 & 5
• Accreditation – Fully accredited by both CIS (Council of International Schools) & WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges in US) and regional members of FOBISIA & EARCOS

Subject Department Introduction:

The Physical Education department has 11 staff members within a larger Faculty of Visual Performing Arts which includes 21 staff across PE, Art, Music and Drama. The PE department delivers Core PE, Cambridge IGCSE PE, AS Cambridge PE and AL AQA PE. Core PE aims to build confidence, competence and enjoyment across a range of activities, encouraging lifelong participation. The department also offers an extensive extracurricular sports programme with opportunities for students to represent the school in competitive fixtures and tournaments across Shenzhen, China and Asia.

Specific Responsibilities:

We are looking for an enthusiastic Physical Education teacher with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality Core PE. The successful candidate will plan engaging, inclusive and appropriately challenging lessons that develop students’ physical skills, teamwork and confidence. An educational background in sport, physical education or exercise science is essential. Experience of teaching IGCSE/GCSE or AS/A level Physical education is desirable. The successful candidate will also contribute to the extracurricular sports programme and be expected to lead at least one school sports team within our core sports, basketball, volleyball or football. Volleyball or basketball would be an advantage.

Schedule：

• Working week: Monday – Friday, 07:50am – 16:40pm (with 07:30am start Mondays and early finish 15:00pm Fridays)
• Teacher contact time – 24 x 40-minute periods per week (approx. 50% timetable)
• Extra-Curricular Activity – 1 hour per week ECA after school (16:30pm – 17:30pm)
• CPD – large range of professional development available both online and face-to-face.
• Holidays – 1 week for October China National Day holiday, 2 weeks Christmas holiday, 3 weeks Chinese New Year holiday, Chinese public holidays, mid-June to early August Summer holiday.

Pastoral：

• Pastoral care is at the heart of what we do at SCIE. All classroom teachers have a role to play in taking care of the whole student promoting their safety, sense of belonging and their wellbeing during their time at the college.
• Form tutor role – most classroom teachers will be required take on a form group of approximately 20 students. The role includes having regular individual mentoring meetings as part of the timetable, having regular form time with the group as well as teaching a weekly PSHE lesson. As the main point of contact for students, form tutors are responsible for getting to know their tutees beyond the classroom. The form tutor role attracts an additional allowance.
• Teachers without a form tutor role may be required to take on additional pastoral duties as required.
• Pastoral professional development – in addition to annual safeguarding training there are additional opportunities to develop your practice in this area and contribute to whole school pastoral development.
