My Week 0 of SCIE

On August 6th, G1 students, including us, walked into campus, marking the beginning of our new journey. In the afternoon of that day, we completed the enrollment registration, took our student ID card photos, went on a school tour, and settled into our dorms. The ice-breaking activities on Sunday evening and Monday pushed us to meet new faces and even made friends with some.

The options fair on Tuesday afternoon was both fun and important. In the sports hall balcony, bright lights illuminated the passionate faces of teachers and students.Teachers of elective courses set up their “stalls” on the balcony, striving to persuade us to choose their subjects. The teachers answered each question with enthusiasm and patience.

The geography teacher, holding a globe in his hand, spoke eloquently, attracting crowds of students. On the physics display stand, students’ work – an elastic car – was on display. Teachers explained the profound physics formulas and laws rigorously and logically with passionate and simple language. The computer science teachers vividly showed us the composition of a computer and its advantages in future university applications.

The options fair was a place full of opportunities and possibilities. Each subject had its unique charm, attracting us students who were eager to learn. Here, we found our own interests and made choices for the future.

On Wednesday morning, in the Halo Theatre, our seniors and teachers unveiled the unique charm of the SCIE family. From various activities like GCA, IA, ECA to useful study methods, the college system, and regulations, it made us look forward to campus life. In the afternoon, filled with excitement, we participated in the Ice Breaker activities, which were competed on a house basis.

One of our seniors elaborately explained the procedure of the activity, guiding us to use cardboard boxes, plastic pipes, and tape to create an eco-friendly sled, which we would test for speed on the tracks after completion. All of us participated with passion; some used tape to stabilize the cardboard, others carefully planned the sled-pulling strategy, and some had even started warming up. With our efforts combined, our sled was finally finely made.

Upon arriving at the competition, we cautiously checked every detail and familiarized ourselves with the track. When the whistle blew, as if a cannon had fired, two students pulled the sled with two at the back pushing with all their might, and the one on the sled clung tightly to the handles, their faces beaming with a mixture of anxiety and excitement. The sled dashed towards the finish line lightning fast, with a thunderous cheer erupting from the crowd afterwards.

In the afternoon we then received a task list on an A4 paper, containing 21 questions which included riddles and unnoticed details about our school. Each of us selected a tiring task. Consequently, a friend and I climbed to the school’s rooftop. The aerial view, with green tracks, exquisite classrooms, and uniquely designed art rooms, came into view. Upon finding the targeted classroom, I couldn’t help but stop to enjoy the sight.

In the process of problem-solving as a group, we gradually familiarized ourselves with our new classmates. Through repeated high-quality teamwork, our relationships with our peers became harmonious, and the vessel of friendship was gradually constructed. With laughter and joy, we completed the school’s tasks without even realizing it, and we all decided to have lunch together. Listening to the sound of our classmates’ footsteps and panting as they shuttled between buildings, listening to the stream of questions and patient responses that we asked our seniors, and tasting the delicious meals from the school canteen, I was filled with a mixture of emotions.

In such a liberating, inclusive, beautiful, and desirable campus, week 0 passed faster than we thought. The seniors took us to familiarize ourselves with the campus, participated in various campus activities, and fit into campus life. The sense of strangeness between us and our classmates gradually disappeared in ice-breaking activities one after another. Countless precious and lifelong friendships were gained from all the activities we participated in. The opportunity to manage our free time allows us to adapt faster to future university and social life. The school provides us with a platform for natural growth, broadening our horizons and helping us thrive in the future, making us extremely excited for what to come.
