Course:
IGCSE Spanish is designed for learners who are learning Spanish as a foreign language. The aim of this syllabus is to develop an ability to use the language effectively for practical communication. The course is based on the linked language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, and these are built on as learners progress through their studies.
The syllabus also aims to offer insights into the culture and civilisation of countries where Spanish is spoken, thus encouraging positive attitudes towards language learning and towards speakers of foreign languages.
The course covers topics from five main areas of experience: everyday activities, personal and social life, the world around us, the world of work and the international world.

Course:
Spanish at AS and A Level aims to develop the student’s ability to understand Spanish in a variety of registers and to enable him or her to communicate confidently and clearly using the target language.
Studying Spanish at AS and A Level is well suited to internationally-minded learners as it develops insights into the culture and civilisation of the countries where the language is spoken (Spanish is the official language in around 20 countries), including the study of literary text at A Level. It also encourages positive attitudes toward language learning and a sympathetic approach to other cultures and civilisations.
The syllabus supports intellectual and personal development by promoting learning and social skills. Moreover, it aims to form a sound base of skills, language, and attitudes required for further study, work and leisure. It is truly an important component of the learner’s lifelong learning process. Regarding areas of content, the AS course covers topics such as family, human relationships, patterns of daily life, work and leisure and the environment. At the end of the course an AS qualification is awarded.
The A Level course revisits the topics above and explores others of higher complexity, for instance war and peace and scientific and medical advances. Spanish at AS and A Level aims to develop the student’s ability to understand Spanish in a variety of registers and to enable him or her to communicate confidently and clearly using the target language.

At the end of the course an AL qualification, independent from AS, will be awarded.
