[SCIE web news, Jan 3rd, 2017] This was a morning with a little bit cold wind, and this was the first flag rising ceremony after the Christmas holidays.
The host of this flag rising ceremony was our principal, Mr. Greenwood. Firstly, he introduced the new chemistry teacher of our school, Mr. Manoj Odungat and invited him to come up to say hello to everybody. In addition, Mr. Greenwood told us that in the meantime of Christmas holidays, we replaced some aging furniture. We should now find on the third floor all the desks have been replaced with the new type. And the biology lab had been renovated. And on the first floor, there’s now a shower for teachers.
And then, Mr. Greenwood gave some announcements relating to students in A1 and A2.
Firstly, it’s about the principal’s essay competition which had been announced in last semester. It's been noticed up on the notice board for several months and students could check up by themselves. And the deadline for the entry was the 13th on the January.
Secondly, it’s about A1 students who were going to apply Ox-bridge universities. He said last semester he told the students to send him videos. And the students who didn’t yet send please send him the video as soon as possible.
And then, Mr. Greenwood invited Gary to announce the results of house competitions.
And the results are as below:
Scrabble Competition： 1. Metal 2. Fire and Wood 4. Water
Annual Christmas Tree Event： 1. Metal 2. Wood 3. Water 4. Fire
What came next was the announcement of starting of the G1 enrichment program. On every Tuesday and Thursday, the students would have the enrichment program, including a couple of period of either English, or counselling on university application, or some specialized programs.
Last thing for today. Mr. Greenwood said there were two special members living in our school for several year without a name. These two things were the two turtles living in the pond. And we would have a competition about to find out the best name for the turtles. Each form group needed to give names for the two turtles, one Chinese name and one English name. It would be preferable that the names are meaningful. Since it’s quite difficult to define gender of turtles. We would assume one of them is male and one of them is female. After hearing that, students were seemed to be very interested in that competition.
This was the end of today’s flag rising ceremony and the semester two started.
