[SCIE web news, March 6th, 2017] On March 1, pm, during PHSE, there was a class meeting with the theme of Ecological footprint, which is about "citizen consciousness and environmental protection". The whole class are required to discuss and give presentation in English. We also invited to six parents participating the meeting.
The class meeting was hosted by Jerry and Andy who are G2 students. The two boys prepared a few days ahead. They put desks and chairs into an oval, so the students can discuss face to face; they prepared white cardboard and marker; how to divide the students into groups, and the final reward. They were seriously considering every detail.
First of all, Jerry introduced what is Ecological footprint by ppt to all, and then illustrated that human need to research environmental problems urgently; Then, Jerry and Andy distributed the questionnaire. The students carefully answered each question. When questionnaire is finished, everyone will get his or her own score; The students who got the similar score would be in the same group, because the same score showed that they have similar views. Then, 17 students of G1 and G2 were divided into 4 groups (A1 students were absent because of the meeting in auditorium). Now, a lively discussion started, students wrote on the cardboard into two columns about the environmental issues both in school and in their family, even some students draw a vivid pattern to illustrate their opinion. The last part, a representative from each group gave presentation completely in English.
The four students were Tiger and Cici from G2, York and Corrine from G1. Although they studied in SCIE less than two years, even less than a year for G1students, they expressed their opinion with fluent English. Each representative talked about 5 minutes or so. In this process, the students specifically pointed out, such as the projector and the fluorescent lamp were still on during lunch time; There is a serious waste of food in the canteen. They also put forward the solution, such as someone is responsible to turn off the projector and the fluorescent lamps, and maybe LED lamps could be used instead of the fluorescent lamps. Usually, tissue consists of three layers, so they said we can split a piece of tissue into three layers so as to increase the usage rate.
Due to the limited PHSE time, it is impossible to let every G1and G2 student give the presentation. A very big thank you to Jerry and Andy.
Our students showed their high and vigorous spirits to their parents during the PHSE. They have grown up in SCIE.
