Interesting ways of releasing pressure at Emory University.
2018-04-20

[SCIE web news, April 20th, 2018] I am 2016er graduate Daniel Liu. I’m now a student at Emory University. By sharing my stories in the US and some of my personal thoughts, I hope to give you an insight into what student’s life here is really like. This can also act as a guidance for your future college choice.

College life can become really stressful sometimes, especially during midterms or finals, when there are countless tests and papers. In order to help students to distress and relax, our school would come up with all sort of different fun activities. One of our unique activities is called a “Petting Zoo”. School would get in contact with nearby farms and they will bring various kinds of animals to our campus. There are ducks, goats, chickens and even cows. Students can play with those animals and take selfies with them. The one time I enjoyed the most was when there came several parrots which could even speak words such as “I love you” and “how are you”.

Another good option for students to distress themselves is to jump into the school’s free and warm in-door swimming pool. I would usually jump into the pool after the workout in the gym. It feels great.

We also have a traditional event called “Midnight Pancake”. It is usually held at the day before the finals start. Stuff and faculties will be gathered in the cafeteria, wearing chef’s outfits, making and delivering delicious pancakes. Eating is never a bad way for us to release our stress.

Our school also provides bikes renting service for us. It is a great option for students who want to ride along the nature trails or towards nearby town for a decent meal. Each month, the school will organize a trip to the nearby Arabia Mountain. Signed up students and their bikes will be transported via van to the park for an enjoyable two-hour ride. There’s even free pizza after the ride. It is perfect for students who are stressed with works and need some fresh air.

Overall, even though the colleges in the US have great academic pressure, the school will always try its best to help its students to relax and distress. I am glad that there are all these fun activities for us to participate.
